Blake Lively was photographed recently on the red carpet for the God’s Love We Deliver, Golden Heart Awards in New York City. God’s Love We Deliver is the leading provider of nutritious meals to people who are too sick to shop or cook for themselves. They employ a team a registered dieticians who individually tailor meals to each client’s specific medical requirements.
In a shimmering, full length gown with her hair in loose curls, Blake looked beautiful and so centred. She has such an incredible ease when she is in the spotlight – like she was born to do it.
In an interview with E!, she said:
‘I came from a big family, a big family of Southerners,’ she told them, adding: ‘I feel like I’ve always sorta… I’m the youngest of five, so I never raised any siblings below me, but I’m always the person who’s taking everyone else’s kid and putting them on my hip, so I’ve kinda always been a mama’.
This is my third post featuring Blake Lively (her pregnancy announcement is here and a quick break at Lake Placid is here). She has amazing style and poise, although it’s early, she’s already at the top of my list of my most favourite celebrity pregnancy looks.
Blake Lively announced her pregnancy on her blog Preserve last week with a couple of well choreographed perfect bump shots. This week, she has been photographed enjoying Lake Placid – a picturesque little town in upstate NY. Apparently Blake does not have a stylist – everything that she wears, be it red carpet or just lounging around at home – is selected and purchased by herself. She is always on the best-dressed lists and based on what she is wearing in these photographs, it makes sense. She looks fabulous! I’m calling her look casual-sophisticated. A bit of an oxymoron, but let me explain.
Oversized coat – check
Patterned scarf – check
Knee high boots – check (flat heel – great for pregnancy)
Sunglasses – check.
If she swapped the oversized coat for a grey or beige trench, brushed and styled her hair and put on a touch of lippy, it would step it up just that little bit. But it is a holiday at Lake Placid, not a fashion walk and she still looks fabulous.
When I heard the news that Blake Lively was pregnant, I could already foresee what we would learn about the pregnancy.
It would be Perfect.
Blake has really controlled her public image to be one of stepford wifeish. She has the perfect body, hair, marriage and now pregnancy. I realise this sounds a like an ‘eating crackers’ moment and, to be honest, it probably is. I guess I’m just tiring of the perfect celebrity life, pregnancy, marriage etc. It makes me feel inadequate with my messy house, not-bathed-every-night-so-sue-me kids, haphazard meal times and the bedtime bullshit routine that we go through every single night. It’s exhausting.
So when I see these images and read her lifestyle (of course) blog – Preserve – there’s a full on threat response and it manifests through the words on this blog.
“With a new baby on the way there is so much to do! But before experiencing the joy of 3am screams, seemingly impossible amounts of poop and having a favorite shirt covered in reflux…There are presents to open, onesies to dye, there is cake to serve, advice to be shared and all around celebration to be had.”
Add to this list – leaking boobs, sore nipples, tantrums (mine, not the child), the new daily routine of sleep, feed and cry. But to add a little good to this list – the amazing feeling when your baby smiles for the first time, when she laughs for the first time, when you look back at her tiny clothes and are amazed by how big she has grown, when she says mama or dada….every single time.
Enjoy your pregnancy Blake. You look amazing.
