When I heard the news that Blake Lively was pregnant, I could already foresee what we would learn about the pregnancy.
It would be Perfect.
Blake has really controlled her public image to be one of stepford wifeish. She has the perfect body, hair, marriage and now pregnancy. I realise this sounds a like an ‘eating crackers’ moment and, to be honest, it probably is. I guess I’m just tiring of the perfect celebrity life, pregnancy, marriage etc. It makes me feel inadequate with my messy house, not-bathed-every-night-so-sue-me kids, haphazard meal times and the bedtime bullshit routine that we go through every single night. It’s exhausting.
So when I see these images and read her lifestyle (of course) blog – Preserve – there’s a full on threat response and it manifests through the words on this blog.
“With a new baby on the way there is so much to do! But before experiencing the joy of 3am screams, seemingly impossible amounts of poop and having a favorite shirt covered in reflux…There are presents to open, onesies to dye, there is cake to serve, advice to be shared and all around celebration to be had.”
Add to this list – leaking boobs, sore nipples, tantrums (mine, not the child), the new daily routine of sleep, feed and cry. But to add a little good to this list – the amazing feeling when your baby smiles for the first time, when she laughs for the first time, when you look back at her tiny clothes and are amazed by how big she has grown, when she says mama or dada….every single time.
Enjoy your pregnancy Blake. You look amazing.
Marchesa designer, Georgina Chapman, who has designed dresses for Jessica Alba, Renee Zellweger, Jennifer Lopez and Hedi Klum, was radiant in her self-designed dress at the Oscars. Her dress has a simple and elegant silhouette with detailed beading in the bodice.
Georgina offered styling tips for the rest of us saying that
“it all depends on your body type. Your body type changes so much and everybody changes differently, so it really is a very personal thing and I think you just have to go with what you’re comfortable with”
“You have to embrace it. You enjoy it. It’s a few months of your life and it’s a special time in your life, so just enjoy”
I think that is great advice. I had some feedback recently that commenting on pregnant celebrities contributes to everyday women feeling bad about themselves during their pregnancy. I made the comment that the whole reason that I started this blog was not to make women feel bad about themselves but to give women ideas and inspiration on how to dress their changing body. As someone who has struggled to find clothes that fit well (I’m short), I really found it difficult to like my body during my pregnancy and that was partly due to the fact that I didn’t know how to dress it. Yes, it is just clothing but the way you feel about how you look has a huge impact on your confidence and that is why I spend my free hours plugging away at this blog. I really welcome all feedback and comments – because it help me understand how you, as readers, feel about what I am saying and how I am saying it. Thanks for being there.
Hey everyone….we have just had power restored after nearly two days. That’s two days in 33 degree heat with 90% humidity and two young children. I’m beat! Will be spending the rest of the day cleaning out the fridge and cleaning up all the debris around the house after the wild weather. Back to posting regularly from tomorrow.
