Peaches Geldof has had a gorgeous pregnancy. She’s been a little on the thin side, in my opinion but her styling has been spot on.
Speaking at London Fashion Week, Peaches gave the following advice:
“I still fit into a size eight. It’s weird because my body is still thin but I have this big bowling ball on my tummy.
Everything actually fits but I just have to get my husband to help me get the zipper up at the back.
I don’t find it difficult and I don’t wear maternity wear anyway. I wear maternity leggings but I just buy clothes a size up.
That’s what I think all pregnant women should do – just buy a size up, don’t buy cr**py maternity wear.”
Bless her, I think that her heart is the right place but seriously, just buy a size up?! That advice is only good advice for the fortunate few because most of us will not just ‘grow a big bowling ball’ and have the rest of us remain teeny tiny. So the idea of just buying one size up is completely and utterly wrong.
Yes there is crappy maternity wear just like there is crappy non-maternity wear. But designers, department stores and boutiques are (finally) cottoning on the fact that women want to look good when they are pregnant and as a result, there are some great maternity labels out there. Labels like Isabella Oliver and the more affordable Asos.
Peaches advice is sound for buying things like jackets and cardigans. You may even get away with buying your normal size and just leaving it unbuttoned or buying an open drape cardigan. But the most important message is to stay true to your style – like Malin Akerman has continued with her grungy aesthetic.
Let me start by saying that there are a lot of things that I actually like about Kim Kardashian’s outfit, but I’ll get into those later.
First the not-so-good. Where Kim has gone wrong is that the dress has shortened the length of her torso and increased its width. Not a good combination, ever. There’s too much going on in her midsection with the pattern of the sheer (again) bodice and then the detail of the feathered skirt. It’s just given her the worst shape. By having two completely different materials (the sheer vs the feathers), it’s cut her torso in half and the eye just immediately focuses on that junction. Imagine the difference if the dress had been made of one material…it would floooooow.
For the good. I love love love the leather pants under the skirt. I really think that it’s chic and ‘right now’. Plus the cut of these leather pants is perfect for her body and the right length as well. Plus there is no embellishment or ‘extras’ like sheer panels, or baggy in the worst places. And shoes, well I love most of Kim’s shoes and these are no exception. They are simple and gorgeous.
And finally, hair and makeup. As usual, impeccable.
Is it just me, or has Kim looked a little down in all of the photographs of her lately? I would love to see a smile. Kanye doesn’t look too happy either (but that may be because he realised that those awful white shoes are completely and utterly wrong with what he is wearing)
Oh my. Words escape me right now. Bird Bird in white. I seriously question Kim’s taste in clothing. Or Kanye. Or whoever else is telling her that she looks good in her fashion choices. Gosh, even a simple black skirt instead of this poofy, bird featherish skirt would have turned her from fashion failure to fully chic. As well as wearing a bloody jacket the way it is supposed to be worn!
Positive – hair and makeup look great, although she could tone down the foundation (or fake tan, whatever it is). Shoes are awesome! I want them.
